Experience Vail like the locals do! Some of our favorites are below - along with in-depth recommendations on how to best enjoy all that Vail has to offer.
Vail is famous for the variety of options available at the end of a ski day. Remember, all Destination Resorts condominiums have a deck or balcony - enjoy a cold beverage or hot chocolate and enjoy the mountain views! Or take your drink to the hot tub and re-live your ski day!
Looking for more excitement or live music? Don't miss the Red Lion - a Vail landmark and Vail's most famous meeting place. Tip: The Red Lion gets crowded during apres ski, be sure to arrive early to score a seat!
If the Red Lion is too crowded or you want to try someplace else in Vail Village, we recommend Los Amigo's. Arrive early for a spot on the outdoor deck and watch the skiers come down International and Pepi's Face into the Village.
Other recommedations in Vail Village include The Tap Room and The Bully Ranch.
Been there and tried Vail Village and want to stay closer to your condominium? Popular options in Lionshead Village include Garfinkel’s and Mezzaluna. Both restaurants have great decks and full menus as well as drink specails. If you want to truly experience Vail like the locals do, don't miss Bart & Yeti's or the deck at Billy's Island Grill! Tip: if you are enjoying apres ski in Lionshead Village, head to your condomium first and change clothes - and be sure to leave those ski boots behind! You'll be much more comfortable!
Time for Dinner?
Our concierge is happy to help you find the perfect restaurant for you and your family. There are a few restaurants that are "can't miss" and we highly recommend! Experience creative American cuisine at Sweet Basil (tip: you can eat at the Bar and still select from the full menu!). For a romantic dinner at one of Vail's signature restaurants, don't miss the French inspired La Tour Restaurant in Vail Village! One last can't miss is Chap's Restaurant at the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa - even better, our guests save 20% off their entire tab (including alcohol!) when seated between 5:30pm-6:30pm or 8:30pm-9:30pm!
Searching for something more family friendly? Our recommended family restaurants include Pazzo’s, Vendetta’s and Bart & Yeti's.
If you are looking to stay closer to your condominium for dinner, try Billy's Island Grill (located in the Landmark Building) or Montauk Seafood Grill in Lionshead Village.
Need a day off from skiing? Try these non-skiing activities:
Vail has plenty of activities for the non-skiers in your group or if you are simply taking a day off.
Catch the free in-town shuttle and enjoy a day of shopping in Vail Village. Even better, contact our concierge and book a day at the Aria Spa & Club. You can save 20% at Aria for most treatments if booked through the Destination Resorts concierge!
If you are looking for a bit more adventure during your day off from skiing, take a guided snowmobile trip at Camp Hale or a winter Hummer Tour to Piney River Ranch. Other unique options include a hot-air baloon ride high above the Vail Valley or a backcountry dog-sledding trip.
Or you can always rent snowshoes and enjoy a day of quiet solitude on Vail Pass or any number of other trails in the Vail Valley.
Vail's Adventure Ridge atop the Eagle Bahn Gondola is a can't miss - they offer guided snowmobile trips, ice skating, tubing, ski biking and other activities that are great fun for kids of all ages! Tip: you can ride the Eagle Bahn Gondola for free after 2pm in the winter to access all the fun that Adventure Ridge has to offer!
